First DIY Speaker Build ZX Spectrum Desing by Paul Carmody – Lessons Learned

I finally got around making another video. It has been tough getting back into it with all the work and personal life.
This time I want to showcase my first major DIY build that started it all for me. My Red DIY speakers, the ZX Spectrum. They are designed by Paul Carmody, the maker of the very famous DIY Speakers Overnight Sensations and Amiga. I think this was an overlooked design, because of it’s more expensive components.

Check out my latest DIY video 📺 bellow 😁.

DIY Acoustic Panels – Fast Build with Professional High-Performance Acoustical Material (RockBoard 60)

Have you considered acoustic treatment for your home? There is just too much reverberations and echo in your room, or you want to quiet down your room. Great! Lets do it! How much? $80 for a 2’x4′ a panel + shipping!!!! Can I DIY it cheaper? Yes!

I build mine around $45 per panel by using premium/professional acoustic material, but if you select cheaper acoustic material you can get that close to $35-$40 per panel!!!! (even cheaper if plywood goes down) 😎

Check out my latest DIY video 📺 bellow 😁.

How to Hide your TV Wires The FAST WAY! DIY In-wall power cord and cable installation!

This should be a QUICK ONE! My 2nd, Livingroom project, is to hide my unsightly wires hanging from my TV!

Check out my 6 min installation video!

I did some research and I went for simplicity and speed of installation! I chose the Legrand-Wiremold CMK70 Flat Screen TV Cord and Cable Power Kit.

This kit came with a hole saw, and fish tape that I can reuse later on! It is much simpler to cut a round hole then to fiddle with a drywall knife and make sure you have level rectangular cuts!

I think the round box is the FASTEST way to do an in-wall installation!

Polk Speaker Disassembly and Tweeter Replacement – DIY or buy Consumer Grade Speakers?

It has been super busy the last few weeks so I did not have much time for DIY. However I did put together this quick video showing the speaker disassembly and tweeter replacement of the Polk CSi A6 Center Channel Speaker. It is a lot of speaker for $150 new, but I was lucky enough to get it very cheap used, BUT the tweeter was blown! 😒

Was it worth it replacing the tweeter? Is it worth buying this center channel new, or should I spend $150 on a DIY kit?

Replacing the tweeter or woofers is easy, as you can see in the video, all you need is a set of Hex Keys and the replacement drivers.

My Hallway Renovation – How to repair drywall, paint, and install baseboard molding and door casing!

This Home Improvement project took a few weekends to get done, and I recorded a TON of footage for my YouTube video bellow. It took me a while to make this video so it’s finally here!

    In this video I cover:

    • How to repair and prep drywall, fix nail pop outs and cracks
    • How to prime and paint your walls
    • What primer and paint I used
    • How to install door trim/casing
    • How to install baseboard molding, and corners in particular
    • How to caulk door casing and baseboard molding

I have enough footage on each of the above to do a detailed tutorial for each but the 10minute video will do for now. 😁

  • TV Wall Mount
    Home Improvement

TV Wall Mount – Goodbye crappy TV speakers and soar neck! Hello beautiful picture and sound!!!!

Over the winter break I finally got around to mount my TV on the wall!

I am a bit of a “baby audiophile” and I’ve been itching to bring a part of the home theater sound system into my family room! I couldn’t do that before because the TV was resting on the shelf and there was no room for my receiver and center channel… no receiver meant no big boy speakers either 😎. Also the TV was sitting too low, and it always put a strain on my neck when I tried to relax on my couches.😒

My neck and my ears had finally had enough!!!!

So, the solution was to mount my TV on the wall, free up the necessary shelf space, and be more comfortable when watching.

Read on to understand the reasons behind my methods, and check out my YouTube Video to see how I found MY best placement, and how I mounted the TV on the wall.

I was going to mount the TV on the wall anyways, so there is no point to wait for my “major renovation” of the family room. I can actually enjoy watching shows and movies NOW, so lets do it!

    The Road Bike Stand

So after a few weekends of chore projects I decided to make something fun and creative. I didn’t want to spend time designing anything, and I just wanted to get into building ASAP!

So here it is, (as my fiend called it) the “Trophy” road bike stand 🤣!

It definitely had the trophy/commemorative plaque kind of feel without the paintjob, but once I put some color on it, it looks pretty slick!

It took me about 2.5hours to make a functional bike stand, and 1/2 of that time was spent eyeballing dimensions and looking for my tools. Painting, also took about 2 hours, spread over a few days. So with a simple sketch, you can make yourself a functional stand in about an hour!👍

You can check out how I built the stand on my YouTube channel! I thought it would be an easy video to edit, as I decided not to explain any of the steps, but it turned out that it took me way longer to make the video then to make stand! I think I am getting better at editing, but I have to stop making 15 minute videos of me walking around, it’s a pain sift through and edit out the 30 seconds of actual content! I hope you enjoy!😁

Around the Yard! Winterizing my sprinklers and raking about 10 tons of leaves :)

So around Thanksgiving break I decided to get some much needed exercise and rake in my leaves. And while at it, why not winterize my sprinklers?

When we got the house last year, we also inherited a functional sprinkler system! Hooray, we can finally have a nice yard… only to discover how expensive it is to water :(. It cost me about $200 a month, just to water the front yard!!! After 3 months and $600 I decided that a perfect yard is not all that important to me :D, and that I just need to maintain it at a respectable level. Perhaps a Well Pump would make much more sense in the future.

Regardless if I decide to get that lush green or just keep it neat, I need to make sure the sprinkler system is functional! (even in the back yard)

Where I live there is a chance that we get a nasty freezing winter, causing my sprinklers pipes to burst. If the weather holds below freezing for several days AND your sprinkler system is full of water, there is a good chance that the water will freeze, expand, and burst the sprinkler pipes.

To avoid that repair project (and save some $$$) I did some research and figured out how to do it myself! Its actually pretty simple, and once you do it the first time, you are good to go for many years to come!

Sprinkler Winterization/blowout will cost you anywhere between $50 and $250, with an average around $80.

Naturally I decided to make a “quick video” about it and show you how 🙂

Lets get Started! First project on YouTube! Edgeband Rework!

Ok, so bare with me 🙂

I have taken the first leaps and have created a YouTube account and an Instagram account!

I have already started posting content there, and it’s a bit overwhelming. It is only one YouTube video but it took me several nights over two weeks to actually edit something that resembles YouTube content :). I used an open source video editing software called Shotcut https://shotcut.org/ and it worked out pretty great. I was quite surprised how fast I picked it up, but when it comes to sound editing… I will leave that for the next video.

    Check out my first Video!

Until next time… go make something! 🙂
